On Tuesday, April 17th the news that had been hinted at in the Verge cryptocurrency community was finally released. The privacy coin XVG will be accepted as payment on the porn video sharing platform Pornhub.

Hype had been building over the course of the past week with the price soaring to more than $0.10 in anticipation. Reactions were split with some calling the news revolutionary while others poked fun at what they considered to be a letdown.

Interestingly enough, the pornography industry has been speculated to be a breakthrough mainstream onramp for the cryptocurrency. HackerAfternoon chronicled the demand for a privacy coin that can retain anonymity for its users. Verge meets every standard.

This isn’t the first time that Verge has produced massively hyped news in the past few months. Tech Pioneer John McAfee was famously inundated with messages after a spoof McAfee account suggested Verge could hit $15 in 2018.

Pornhub released the following statement regarding Verge:

The future has come. In our efforts to keep current with our community’s privacy and payment references, Pornhub will now be accepting Verge as a means of payment for services like Pornhub premium and more, on our platforms. Building on verge’s core values of security, anonymity, and practicality, the introduction of this cryptocurrency as a means of payment Pornhub signifies an important foray into the future from the industry that is always on the cutting edge of technology.

Only an hour after the announcement the price of Verge has plummeted.
