Ron Paul: Exempt Cryptocurrency from Capital Gains

By Trey Johnson | United States

President Donald Trump and Ron Paul actually agree on something: Americans need to audit the fed. Trump has said recently, “I really disagree with what the Fed is doing” on the topic of raising interest rates. Of course, both political leaders have reasons for concern: the U.S. dollar has lost over 96% of its value since the inception of the Federal Reserve in 1913.

Paul has also repeatedly called for an audit of the Federal Reserve. His son, too, shares this same belief. Rand Paul has put forth legislation to audit the fed and it indeed includes an exception for cryptocurrencies.

The first steps are passing the Audit the Fed bill, allowing people to use alternative currencies, and exempting all transactions in precious metals and cryptocurrencies from capital gains taxes and other taxes. -Ron Paul

Spending cuts are probably the next thing Americans need, next to aggressive tax cuts. The inclusion of these tax cuts, however, will not entice Democrats standing on the opposite side of the aisle, preparing to resist. Generally in favor of higher taxes than Republicans, their support for capital gains exemptions may be low.

The Federal Reserve has never had an audit before, in its more than 100-year history. In past votes, Democrats have shown little support for the plan. However, some have dissented and shown support, including left-leaning Independent Bernie Sanders.

Federal Reserve Danger

Ron Paul is able to point out the apparent near danger that the Fed’s fiat currency manipulation has caused:

In contrast to market money, government-created fiat currency is anything but stable. Central banks constantly increase and decrease the money supply in an attempt to control the economy by controlling the interest rates. This causes individuals to misread market conditions, and … eventually, reality catches up to the Federal Reserve-created fantasies.

Paul’s words come at a time when cryptocurrency is, relatively speaking, stagnant. However, many market analysts suggest that the rest of this year and 2019 will bring a revival.

Beto O’Rourke Faces a Possible Campaign Finance Violation

By Trey Johnson | United States

The race for the Senate in Texas is heated, to say the least. The Republican incumbent Ted Cruz is doing everything he can to invalidate his Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke.

O’Rourke is receiving all kinds of support from people who are not Texans. Over a third of the Democratic candidate’s contributions have come from outside of Texas. It is not illegal to receive campaign contributions from outside of the state. The issue at hand is a prohibited campaign contribution from CNN directly to Robert O’Rourke.

CNN offered to host a town hall with both Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke set for October 18th in McAllen Texas. Cruz declined the invitation, but CNN plans to hold the event showcasing the Democratic candidate for an hour of airtime.

Libertarian candidate Neal Dikeman believes this is a clear violation of campaign finance laws and has filed a lawsuit with the Federal Election Commission.

Dikeman’s campaign stated in a press release that “such coverage is not part of a general pattern of campaign-related news account giving reasonably equal coverage to all opposing candidates in CNN’s national service area.”

“Excluding a Libertarian nominee from the debates, because you think I’ll take more votes from you than the other guy is one thing, politics is politics,” he said. “But violating campaign finance laws, especially on this scale is much bigger than that. The scope of this violation should give every American pause.”

Fellow patriot Neal Dikeman and his campaign valued the production, promotion, and broadcast of the event at $10 million making it the largest campaign finance violation in history.

Collectivism Has Destroyed Venezuela

By Trey Johnson | Venezuela

Millions of Venezuelans escape a country destroyed by bad government and coercive collectivism.

The border of Colombia and Ecuador is full of Venezuelans who are doing their earnest to escape the clutches of a coercive regime in search of free markets and better opportunities. Common tourists, amongst the droves of Venezuelans, must wait hours and hours in a line that wraps around the immigration office here in Ipiales, Colombia. During peak days, it can take over 24 hours to cross the border between Colombia and Ecuador.

The border crossing’s elevation is 2898 m (9500 ft), which makes the experience a rather cold one as nighttime approaches. Individuals in line are able to stay warm with the help of vendors selling coffee, hot dogs, and empanadas.

Most South American countries have no choice but to allow free movement of these refugees due to treaties signed by UN member states. The strain of this situation hampers economic stability and the free flow of goods and services due to long lines at the border.

While in the line, one can also learn of the tragedies affecting the people of Venezuela and understand why they are leaving their beloved homeland. Men and women full of fond memories and past success, now crushed by coercive collectivism. Doctors, welders, and professionals of all sorts are throwing away their experience to land a job in a neighboring country, hoping to make the minimum wage of $300 per month in favorable countries such as Chile and Peru. Ecuador and Colombia are not desirable, and Brazil’s language barrier makes the destination unattainable.

To date, an estimated 4 million Venezuelans have left the country. Hyperinflation is the sole reason these people have left. “There is a lot of work, but there is no money.” The minimum wage is currently 2,000,000 Bolivars per month which equates to $3 USD per month. That is $36 per year. The price of a kilogram of beef in Venezuela is $3 dollars and the price of shampoo is also $3.

To make matters worse, the Venezuelan government instituted new currency controls on money entering the country through financial institutions. In order to send money to your family members stuck in Venezuela, you must have a bank account in both Venezuela and an outside country. One refugee believes this policy is “choking the people.”

The current administration’s new constitution would completely eliminate the ability to own private property. This market uncertainty makes investments impossible.

The people who are working to stay in the country are almost at the end of what seems to be the brink of collapse. Schools are functioning, but they have no food to feed their students. Most of the faculty members leave the schools in search of new opportunities. Revolutionaries like the violin playing patriot and Oscar Pérez have become heroes to Venezuelans trying to take back their country.

The Venezuelan regime is continuing to provide a box of food to each family in accordance with its collectivist agreement. This box is called CLAP and contains two packages of flour and rice along with powdered milk “if you are lucky.” The frequency of these food distributions is about once every 5 to 6 months according to a refugee waiting in the 24-hour line.

One wealthy Venezuelan had a stable career for over 15 years. He had a house, a car, and “a whole complete life.” He went on trips with his family inside and outside the country. Right now he is busy moving groups of Venezuelans to more favorable environments scattered throughout South America. He understands the attraction of collectivism and believes “the Venezuelans have to learn the lesson.”

A Colombian bus driver passes and asks, “are you going to Cúcuta?”, a town on the border of Venezuela and Colombia, 32 hours in the opposite direction from this particular crossing.

It is truly a sad state of affairs for the people of Venezuela who slowly lost their grip on freedom and their country. Experts believe it will take 30 years to bring this country back to its former self. Many Venezuelans will most likely never return to their homeland, which is but another civilization lost to socialism and coercive collectivism.

The New Mexico Senate Race is Heating Up

By Trey Johnson | United States

Former two-time New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson is calling for Republican candidate Mick Rich to drop out of the U.S. Senate race in New Mexico and coordinate his efforts towards helping to defeat Democratic incumbent Martin Heinrich. Johnson’s bold idea could work as he is pulling away more voters from the Republican party than the Democratic party. New Mexico has been sending Democratic senators to Washington D.C. since 2009, and Republicans have a lower chance of winning the U.S. Senate seat than a Libertarian candidate.

Rich is asking Gary Johnson to withdraw from the race, stating in a fundraising email: “Let him spew his radical beliefs elsewhere, so the hard-working families of this state can gain a voice in the U.S. Senate.”

Johnson was the Libertarian presidential candidate in 2012 and 2016, and helped to realize a large increase in the percentage of votes received by the Party between the two elections. Libertarians were able to garner this support while on the ballot in 37 states.

Johnson pulled in 9% of the votes for president in his home state of New Mexico during the very important 2016 presidential election. Only the two candidates from the major parties were included in the presidential debates, making it impossible for the former Governor to be considered by American voters.

Republican Senator Rand Paul recently endorsed Gary Johnson for Senate.

I have an important announcement today. I’m endorsing Gary Johnson for US Senate.

Gary Johnson is a true fiscal conservative. As Governor, he reduced the size of government while improving services and cutting taxes.

His leadership on issues of government overreach, protecting Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights against mass surveillance, and common sense foreign policy is sorely needed in the United States Senate, for New Mexico and the nation.

He will be an important ally and a critical independent voice.

This marks a historic moment as Paul refused to endorse a candidate from his own party.

Gary Johnson is popular in New Mexico and has a fair shot at winning the U.S. Senate race. In the words of Rand Paul, “he is an important American ally and a critical independent voice”.

New Yorkers can Fight Corruption by Voting Larry Sharpe

By Trey Johnson | United States

Larry Sharpe (L) is a Bronx native, a Marine Corps veteran, an entrepreneur, and a management consultant. He moreover has 15 years of experience mentoring international executives, entrepreneurs & salespeople. He is also a teacher and has served as a guest instructor for business management and leadership at institutions such as Yale University, Columbia University, Baruch College and John Jay College.

In a recent poll, when pitted against the incumbent, Larry Sharpe was the closest competitor. The Republican candidate fell short where Larry came close, gaining 49% of the non-Cuomo votes. He thus truly believes this is a three-way race where a third party candidate has the opportunity to make a run for the office.

Like Democrats, Larry believes voter apathy is the reason why citizens enable incumbents like the current Governor of New York. He is asking for New Yorkers to get out and vote: not for a corrupt Democrat, nor the try-hard Republican, but for a fresh new party moving up in the ranks of American Politics.

Libertarian thinkers have a higher IQ on average than any other set of beliefs. Libertarian principles are, of course, rooted in the revolutionary American ideals that created this great country. American voters have come to the realization that money in politics is the root of corruption. And, Larry Sharpe promises to decrease the amount of money available to corrupt individuals to choke their supply of power.

A View for the Future

Sharpe went on the Joe Rogan podcast where expressed his plan for New York state and how he intends to bring sanity back to the governorship. As a former teacher, he has a plan to reform the education system in New York. He believes empowering local teachers and Parent Teacher Associations is the key to saving New York’s failing education system.

Larry wants to save New York. If New Yorkers vote Democrat or Republican, the incumbent will win the election and nothing will change. Without a doubt, the state deserves a leader who is not corrupt and will not lead the state down the same unchanged path. New Yorkers deserve Larry Sharpe.
