Ocean Builders Seasteaders Facing Death Penalty

Bitcoin entrepreneurs Chad Elwartowski and Nadia Supranee Thepdet have now been accused of breaching Thai national sovereignty with their seasteading homes created by Ocean Builders in Thai waters. The couple has been seasteading since March 2, 2019.

A Breach of Thai Law?

The Thai government believes that the couple is attempting to create a new state inside Thai borders. This is illegal in Thailand and is seen as a threat to the national sovereignty of Thailand. Several Navy officers claim to have proof that the couple is violating international law and furthermore explains how the couple never asked for permission from the Thai government to engage in seasteading.

The couple claims that they do not seek to undermine the national sovereignty of Thailand. They simply want to live free. Elwartowski said, “I like the idea of being able to vote with your home. If you don’t like how your community is being run, you just float to a new one.” The couple just wants to be left alone. They did not build or deploy the seasteads but simply lived there.

Nevertheless, the Thai government still sees this couple as a threat and is searching for them.

Possible Death Penalty

Chad Elwartowski and Nadia Supranee Thepdet are now on the run from the Thai government. Elwartowski stated that the Thai government wants him and his wife Nadia dead.

“The way things work here in Thailand is that they set the narrative in their media then execute it. The narrative is that we are a threat to national security and we face life in prison or death. They did not want us to survive to get our side out.”

The current whereabouts of the couple are unknown. Elwartowski has taken to Facebook asking for help if they are caught, believing that they will likely be executed without trial.

The OceanBuilders website has stated that are willing to talk to anyone in charge to help save the couple and hopes for a diplomatic solution.
