McAfee has been on the run from federal authorities since January 2019, when he announced that he was on the run from U.S. authorities. McAfee is living on a boat following the convening of a Grand Jury to indict four of his 2020 Presidential campaign workers, himself, and his wife on tax-related charges. The IRS has not confirmed the existence of these charges.
This announcement that he would be going dark led many to formulate their own theories of what happened to the outspoken cryptocurrency and drugs enthusiast. Rumors began circulating that he was being chased after by federal agents and needed to live off of the grid to keep his location concealed. However, an update was posted to his twitter a day later. The tweet announced that McAfee was in fact not incarcerated and suggested that they were off the boat and in a new location, on land.
Those who read "go dark" as "incarcerated" shouldn't play lotto this week. Here's @officialmcafee & @theemrsmcafee safe and sound in their new backyard as defiant, joyful and free as ever. Stay tuned… pic.twitter.com/e3T8wirhge

This tweet seemingly dispells any belief that McAfee has been caught by federal agents and all but confirms that he is still free and safe. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their relief that he was safe and would be able to provide crypto commentary soon.
