In a recent tweet, presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard discussed her stance on big tech’s suppression of free speech. Gabbard came out against the suppression of speech by both big government and big tech companies. She stood to defend free speech, civil liberties, and privacy, calling them “essential to our American values.” Many believe that free speech has been in danger of suppression recently.
"Big tech. Overreaching government. Our constitutional rights are under attack. As president, I’ll protect your rights to free speech, civil liberties and personal privacy because they’re essential to our American values and must never be compromised." —TeamTulsi #TULSI2020 pic.twitter.com/WCiUupmvSO

In particular, big tech companies have come under fire. Specifically, Google and Facebook have drawn backlash for suppressing and blacklisting sites of certain ideologies under the guise of political correctness. Tucker Carlson has pointed out that he believes big tech is a bigger threat to your freedom than the federal government.
Tulsi Gabbard thinks she has felt the worst of the suppression. After the first Democratic debates, Tulsi Gabbard sued Google for suppressing her ads.
Tulsi Gabbard on Political Correctness
As stated above, this suppression of speech comes often from political correctness. Big tech companies often censor and remove posts and accounts they don’t agree with under the guise of “hate speech”, even when the offender is entirely nonviolent. For instance, Twitter has de-platformed the antiwar advocate Scott Horton, despite his commitment against violence. Many others have met the same fate.
Moreover, Harvard research in 2017 determined that Google search results are not objective. This comes after accusations the previous year that the tech giant had manipulated them in favor of Hillary Clinton. And with nine blacklists limiting certain content from coming up in search results, their neutrality becomes even more cloudy. Typically, the company has targeted. Therefore, it is naturally unusual for a Democrat to oppose such actions; many simply do not talk about the issue.
However, Tulsi Gabbard is different. Calling political correctness a threat to American values, she claims to stand for American ideals like free speech and open discourse.
Tulsi’s defense of free speech is one of the reasons she has drawn support from Americans of diverse political ideologies. Her more noninterventionist foreign policy and desire to audit the Federal Reserve have also made her an attractive candidate to many across the political spectrum.
