Syria’s Newest Fighting Force Is Antifa

The situation in Syria is tragic. Turkey invaded Syria in an attempt to take over Kurdish regions of the country. America has abandoned and betrayed the Kurdish people and has left Rojava without allies. Yet, not a single soldier is coming home. Rojava is the name of the autonomous government operating in the Kurdish region of Syria.

The Kurds have done so well not because of military might, but because they’ve only been fighting on one front. Rojava has been defending their region and others from ISIS. They’re committed to this because America and other foreign militaries have been protecting northwest Syria from ever-more looming threats of a Turkish invasion. But left alone, Rojava could break, and their whole region will crumble with it. But there is hope. A Mother Jones article describes a group of three foreigners fighting with Rojava. The one American of the three started out affiliated with the Antifa movement back in the United States.

YouTuber Sargon of Akkad runs for European Parliament as member of UKIP

The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has selected YouTuber Sargon of Akkad to be a candidate in the European Parliament election. Carl Benjamin, who goes by Sargon of Akkad on YouTube was selected from a pool of “190 potential candidates” according to comments from UKIP’s leader, Gerard Batten. Additionally, Mr. Batten cites Sargon’s selection for candidacy as “UKIP’s priority to have MEPs who will fight to make Brexit happen.”. Mr. Benjamin has been an outspoken critic of the European Union and supporter of Brexit, main traits of UKIP.

Often times it feels as if the United States is on the brink of something awful, some sort of civil war, some sort of coup, some sort of revolt or revolution. Since 2016 there have been more than 30 internationally reported political riots with dire consequences as a result of political violence. There have been several hundred “at risk” protests in America alone. This, along with the heightened division among American people makes the possibility of smart discourse seem further away than ever.
