Last week, 71 Republic’s Carlos Hermosillo wrote two pieces on MMA fighter Conor McGregor’s alleged sexual misconduct. Shortly after we published the second piece, McGregor’s PR agent, Caroline McAteer, sent us an email in which she demanded we remove the second piece. The article in question, which stated that McGregor supposedly offered more than a million Euros to his alleged rape victim, is available here. But 71 Republic is uninterested in McAteer’s little intimidation game.
The Irish Sun reports that an offer was made to a woman to withdraw sexual assault allegations made against an athlete. It adds that the woman, who made accusations in December of 2018, rejected the offer.
The report also says that they “understand” that “the sports personality is preparing a second offer in a bid to compensate the woman in the hope that it doesn’t go to court”.
On Monday, Irish police seized CCTV camera footage, after a woman made a formal complaint against Conor McGregor, alleging sexual assault. The Irish Sun reported that footage shows them walking to a car where the accuser claims that she was forced to perform oral sex.
A few hours after the woman filed the complaint, the vehicle that the athlete was in was stopped by police. Clothing and the vehicle were then seized for forensic examination.
