Beto O’Rourke Faces a Possible Campaign Finance Violation

By Trey Johnson | United States

The race for the Senate in Texas is heated, to say the least. The Republican incumbent Ted Cruz is doing everything he can to invalidate his Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke.

O’Rourke is receiving all kinds of support from people who are not Texans. Over a third of the Democratic candidate’s contributions have come from outside of Texas. It is not illegal to receive campaign contributions from outside of the state. The issue at hand is a prohibited campaign contribution from CNN directly to Robert O’Rourke.

CNN offered to host a town hall with both Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke set for October 18th in McAllen Texas. Cruz declined the invitation, but CNN plans to hold the event showcasing the Democratic candidate for an hour of airtime.

Libertarian candidate Neal Dikeman believes this is a clear violation of campaign finance laws and has filed a lawsuit with the Federal Election Commission.

Dikeman’s campaign stated in a press release that “such coverage is not part of a general pattern of campaign-related news account giving reasonably equal coverage to all opposing candidates in CNN’s national service area.”

“Excluding a Libertarian nominee from the debates, because you think I’ll take more votes from you than the other guy is one thing, politics is politics,” he said. “But violating campaign finance laws, especially on this scale is much bigger than that. The scope of this violation should give every American pause.”

Fellow patriot Neal Dikeman and his campaign valued the production, promotion, and broadcast of the event at $10 million making it the largest campaign finance violation in history.

Libertarians Should Support Ted Cruz

Indri Schaelicke | United States

Perhaps the tightest race of the 2018 midterms, Ted Cruz vs Beto O’Rourke has caught the attention of pundits and ordinary pundits across the US alike. Recent polls show conflicting conclusions, with some putting Cruz ahead by wide margins, and others portraying the race as close. At this point, it is impossible to accurately predict the outcome of this election. Considering how uncertain the result of Texas’s Senate election is at this point, it is important that libertarians rally their support behind the incumbent, Republican Junior Senator Cruz to ensure that up-and-coming Democrat Beto does not achieve election to US Senate. If he is elected, liberty will be much more at risk than it is now.

Nikolas Cruz Pointed Gun at Family, Report Says

By Jason Patterson | United States

19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, suspected to be responsible for killing 17 students at Parkland Highschool, has also reportedly had other family incidents. These include pointing a gun at his brother and his mother.

The suspect’s younger brother, Zachary Cruz, spoke to the Miami Herald in an interview about his sibling.

Zachary, 18, told the outlet his brother once pointed a loaded gun at him. The incident came after a spat when their mother came home from food shopping. Zachary said he’d knocked a jar of Nutella from his brother’s hands after he saw Nikolas stick his fingers in it.

He claimed that his brother then ran up to his room and retrieved his gun, loaded it when he came down and then held it up to his older brother as their mother watched, according to the report.

“If you’re gonna shoot me, shoot me!” Zachary said he yelled at his brother.

” Thankfully ” The moment de-escalated quickly, with Nikolas putting the gun away and returning to watch TV, he told the Herald. But Zachary said the moment stuck with him and he “never messed with him again.”

He also recalled a time that he did the same to his mother, Nik got his AR-15 and put it to my mom’s head,” Zachary said. “He was yelling at her because she wouldn’t take him to a cabin”. It wasn’t clear if the weapon was loaded. The brother said their mother ran to her car and drove away.

“He was in the middle of the driveway, in the middle of the street with his AR-15,” Zachary told the Herald. “I had 911 ready to go on my phone. I guess he just came up and he put his gun away and I hung up.”

He also told the reporter that his brother suffered a depressive disorder and often self-harmed.
