According to the most recent Gallup polling, Donald Trump’s GOP approval rating stands at 87%. Since Gallup began asking the question, this number has never dipped below 77% (it is worth noting this happened between December 11-17, 2017, which is also when his general polling numbers hit their low of 35%). Republican support for the president, it would then seem, is steadfast despite his myriad of controversies. The party seems to be marching in lockstep, and to defy him within the party seems to be a surefire way to end one’s political career.

President Trump’s so-called Title X gag rule of medical staff from family planning clinics does nothing more than reduce abortion money. Planned Parenthood receives almost $60 million in Title X grant money. The mainstream media headlines are always about Planned Parenthood and the catastrophe if one clinic closes.
Today, the media testimony in support of Title X is discussed as women’s health. However, Title X is not designed for that result.
The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services oversees Title X activities and monies. All arguments against the recent Title X rule by the Trump Administration is about the interpretation of the “abortion” section of Title X. Section 1008 of the Family Planning and Population Research Act reads, “None of the funds appropriated under this title shall be used in programs where abortion is a method of family planning.”
If the world is to collapse because of overpopulation, as was the concern of President Nixon and John D Rockefeller III, then Title X would be the single most important federal funding plan in the history of the world. Today, Title X is continually fought over as a money machine for abortion referrals.
The great economist F.A. Hayek once stated that conservatism is only as good as what it conserves. Traditional American Conservatism is based on Judeo-Christain morals and preserving old American values, as well as valuing constitutionalism and limited government. The Republican Party is the alleged party of conservatism, but most of its members have abandoned it and embraced neoconservatism.
Unlike traditional conservatism, it is unclear what exactly neoconservatives are trying to save. Neoconservatism peaked in the 1990s and 2000s, but it still lingers in today’s politics and is harming America. Moreover, the neoconservative philosophy has plagued most of the 20th century.
The Iraq war began in 2003 and has caused the death of over four thousand American soldiers and devastated civilians. The war was controversial from the beginning; many people protested and spoke out against it. When people questioned the war, the state often insisted that we were over there fighting for our freedoms. Many thought this was a made-up scapegoat, but it turns out our freedom really was in Iraq the whole time.
