YALCON Shows Us the Future of the Liberty Movement

Kevin Damato | @KevinCDamato

YALCON is a libertarian convention held by the national organization Young Americans for Liberty (YAL). YAL is a multifaceted organization, holding both a 501(c)(3) for their education side and a 501(c)(4) for their political campaigning work in their “Operation Win at the Door” program.

One of the amazing benefits of being a member of your local YAL chapter is the ability to attend the aforementioned convention, which has 5 locations this year all around the country. During each YALCON, attendees have the opportunities to meet liberty leaders, learn how to expand their outreach knowledge, and network with their peers.

In America, We Don’t Worship God, We Worship Government

Mason Mohon | @mohonofficial

“God is dead and we have killed him” was the cry of Nietzsche as the western world absorbed the new rational ideas of the enlightenment. But this was a cry of despair. As civilization became increasingly rational, the attitude towards religion changed. People are more secular as a consequence of widespread rationalism. In addition, even those that remain religious have de-mystified their worship and practices.

But we as humans face the burden of existence. Having a transcendent framework is useful to grapple with this. The fact that life goes on and on until we die and the world keeps turning despite our actions is scary. When humans look up to something greater than themselves, it helps them cope. But as Nietzsche announced, God is dead. Society has left behind what it used to look up to. In turn, we have begun to worship a different god. This new false idol is the politician.

Why Term Limits Are Needed in America

Jack Shields @Jack_Shields20

Beginning this Congressional term, Senator Cruz (R-TX) proposed a constitutional amendment creating term limits. He did this at the beginning of the last congressional term. Although 82% of Americans support the idea of congressional term limits, it is a mostly symbolic proposal. Reaffirming Cruz’s principles to his supporters, the amendment has no chance of even making it to the floor for debate. People don’t enjoy banning themselves from their own job it turns out. Despite there being no practical path to term limits at the moment, it is worth examining and debating. We should explore the libertarian idea that people should have their freedom to elect authority kept intact. After all, 18% of Americans are not in favor of term limits.

Is the Alt-Right Really Targeting Libertarians?

Ellie McFarland | @El_FarAwayLand

In the world’s climate of division and hatred, the Alt-Right has found its perfect breeding ground. The Alt-Right is the name that various collections of white nationalists, “identitarians” and neo-nazis have given themselves. They are in no way run of the mill conservatives or Republicans. They are radical statists who fetishize the idea of a supremacist government with absolute power. It is the antithesis of libertarianism. Yet, there is a trend that is becoming more and more obvious; the so-called “Libertarian to Alt-Right Pipeline”.

Sorry Traditionalists, There Is No Judeo-Christian West

Ellie McFarland | @El_FarAwayLand

Many traditionalists claim that The West was founded on “Judeo-Christian” values. Specifically, they say, “The Ten Commandments”. The Daily Wire, PragerU, and Louder with Crowder are just a few of the respected media platforms which broadcast this argument repeatedly. Along with these outlets, there is a large group of individual commentators who also push this idea of The West to their audience. There has been enough dismissal of the Christendom angle for years now, but what is seldom addressed is how and why The Ten Commandments were not a foundational document of Western Civilization.
