Clown World: Racist Meme or a Symbol of Protest?

If often seems that our world is looking increasingly grim for those following the news. With the mostly negative news coverage and depressing headlines of our current affairs, it’s easy to be pessimistic. Pessimism of our modern society has come in the form of nihilism and the black pill meme. The black pill meme came from an offshoot of the meme inspired by the “red pill or blue pill” scene from the Matrix. The black pill encompasses a pessimistic attitude towards society, viewing it as beyond repair. Additionally, those who “take” the black pill are referred to as “Doomers” in internet circles. While the black pill is a pessimistic response in internet culture to society, a new meme makes an optimistic one: Clown World.

Book Review: The Dark Double: U.S. Media, Russia, and the Politics of Values

Academics and policymakers from the realist, liberal, and constructivist schools of thought debate the motivations of Russian foreign policy.  Andrei Tsygankov in his latest book The Dark Double: US Media, Russia, and the Politics of Values makes the argument that the tension between the U.S. and Russia is the result of historical, cultural, and political differences.  The book analyzes how U.S. media presents Russia as a “dark double” and a villain in the international system.  According to Tsygankov, the U.S.-Russian relationship is an example of how negative perceptions of the other can lead to competitiveness.  He expresses concern that cooperation between the two powers is unlikely until both recognize and respect their differences.

Kratom may be the key to solving America’s widespread opioid crisis. As disenfranchised Americans continue to overdose, governments and the media alike scramble for a solution. Some candidates, such and Andrew Yang, have gone so far as to make the causes of the opioid crisis their foremost campaign focus. Yet amidst this crawl towards salvation for middle-America, the government continues to embrace flawed logic and pursue damaging legislation in regards to Kratom.

It seems that one of the co-founders have a dark past he was trying to hide by changing his name and hiring IT experts to purge his questionable past. Omar Dhanani, now known as Michael Patryn used to be a known con-artist in the US. American authorities charged and arrested him for trying to pull up numerous scams.
