Kamala Harris Is Not as Progressive as She Seems

Ellie McFarland | @El_FarAwayLand

It’s been over two weeks since the Democratic debates in Florida and the nation is still reeling. Attention has not come off the candidates’ wins, losses, and scandals for a single second. The puff pieces and local news health broadcasts have practically nowhere to go. A “winner” of the second Democratic debate was US Senator Kamala Harris. The media and her supporters praised her take-down of Joe Biden and her stellar performance on the evening of the debate. Harris’ supporters think of her as a perfect progressive candidate in support of all the standard and fringe left economic and social issues.

Warren Neglects Trump’s Name in Democratic Debates

Elizabeth Warren in the Democratic Debate

Elizabeth Warren undoubtedly swept the floor with other the other candidates in the first night of the Democratic Primary Debates. Warren, a past Law School Professor at Rutgers and Senator from Massachusetts, brought out a shimmering light of progressivism. Bernie Sanders, one of the nearly two dozen Democrats currently seeking nomination for the 2020 presidential race, and who also narrowly and controversially lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton in 2016, is an early favorite to win the progressive party’s ticket next summer. He has already received millions of volunteers for his campaign and has amounted millions of dollars in donations thus far. But just how progressive is his campaign actually? If you asked that question in 2016, most people on both sides of the aisle would have criticized his policies for being far too radical. However, just three short years later, many of the ideas headlined by the self-proclaimed Democratic-Socialist have become nearly mainstream.

Separating the Art from the Artists Involved

Jack Shields | @Jack_Shields20

I, like so many comic book fans, had already known for over a month what my plans for last weekend were going to be. Since the unexpected success of Ironman from which the unprecedented and extremely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe was born, I knew that every opening weekend I would be spending my Friday night in a movie theater. Last weekend it was the premiere of Captain Marvel, and in the months leading up to it, I was quite excited. The trailers were fun, she’s an awesome superhero with an interesting backstory, and seeing Nick Fury with two eyes was reason enough to watch the movie to see if I could learn how he loses his eye. Yet, this was different, especially considering the statements of actress Brie Larson before the release of the movie.
