LGBTQ Rights Are Natural Human Rights

2018 marked the 150th anniversary of the Fourteenth Amendment. In part, it says that, “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

That sentence appears to be pretty clear — not a single individual should be given preferential treatment in the eyes of the law.

Yet, someone recently told me that they believe being gay is a choice, and therefore, sexual orientation should not receive protection under the law. In short, I was asked, “Why should gay people be afforded the same benefits in marriage as heterosexual couples?”

Sorry Traditionalists, There Is No Judeo-Christian West

Many traditionalists claim that The West was founded on “Judeo-Christian” values. Specifically, they say, “The Ten Commandments”. The Daily Wire, PragerU, and Louder with Crowder are just a few of the respected media platforms which broadcast this argument repeatedly. Along with these outlets, there is a large group of individual commentators who also push this idea of The West to their audience. There has been enough dismissal of the Christendom angle for years now, but what is seldom addressed is how and why The Ten Commandments were not a foundational document of Western Civilization.

Ben Shapiro Knows Nothing About Trans People

The fallacious and overpraised Ben Shapiro is a traditional conservative pundit known for his journalism and his company, The Daily Wire. He posits Judeo-Christian values and the 10 commandments as the founding ideology of Western society. Shapiro promotes family values, traditional gender roles, and celibacy before marriage. Something which Ben Shapiro claims is not influenced by his religiosity or conservatism is his stance on trans people. He claims only the facts of biology, genetics, and language determine his positions on this.

Toxic Masculinity Is Real but Doesn’t Affect All Men

Many ultra-traditionalist conservatives might have you believe that toxic masculinity is just an excuse for boys who aren’t “boy enough” to exist and for men who aren’t “men enough” to exist. It’s the lack of masculinity that causes erratic violence, right? But, is it the surge of masculinity (and perhaps its friend, testosterone) that catalyzes “good” violence? The same masculinity that gives rise to calculated violence against deserving enemies and makes enemies in the first place?
