The 2020 election is just around the corner and each candidate wants to grow the government more. Beto O’Rourke wants to take your guns, Trump is continuing endless wars overseas, and even the supposed libertarian Bill Weld wants to re-enter the Paris Climate Accords. Is all hope for preserving our freedoms and liberties gone?
ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is dead by the hands of US forces, bringing an end to Trump’s top national security priority. On Sunday morning, Trump announced that special forces took out al-Baghdadi in a “dangerous and daring” overnight raid. al-Baghdadi attempted to flee through a network of underground tunnels.

According to the most recent Gallup polling, Donald Trump’s GOP approval rating stands at 87%. Since Gallup began asking the question, this number has never dipped below 77% (it is worth noting this happened between December 11-17, 2017, which is also when his general polling numbers hit their low of 35%). Republican support for the president, it would then seem, is steadfast despite his myriad of controversies. The party seems to be marching in lockstep, and to defy him within the party seems to be a surefire way to end one’s political career.
The situation in Syria is tragic. Turkey invaded Syria in an attempt to take over Kurdish regions of the country. America has abandoned and betrayed the Kurdish people and has left Rojava without allies. Yet, not a single soldier is coming home. Rojava is the name of the autonomous government operating in the Kurdish region of Syria.
The Kurds have done so well not because of military might, but because they’ve only been fighting on one front. Rojava has been defending their region and others from ISIS. They’re committed to this because America and other foreign militaries have been protecting northwest Syria from ever-more looming threats of a Turkish invasion. But left alone, Rojava could break, and their whole region will crumble with it. But there is hope. A Mother Jones article describes a group of three foreigners fighting with Rojava. The one American of the three started out affiliated with the Antifa movement back in the United States.
Donald Trump may be on his presidential death-bed. Talks of impeachment following the Ukraine scandal lead many to believe the New York businessman is in his final days. Acid-wash the state of corruption. Hunt down those that look to foreign leaders to meddle in the American political process. We need pure, straightforward, old-fashioned democracy in the US. Or at least that’s what those who still have a degree of faith in the policial system say. However, Trump is nothing but a ritual sacrifice. Cutting out his heart on the altar of the holy democratic process would only serve to mask the hollow morality of Washington D.C.
