Socialism?: An Insult Posing as an Economic System

Ellie McFarland | @El_FarAwayLand

In November of 2018, the United States held the midterm elections. It elected dozens of brand new faces to Congress; including the now infamous Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). She is a “Democratic Socialist” and is a Congresswoman for New York’s 14th district. AOC’s success ushered in an entirely new era of democratic politicians. She proved that more radical policies can be popular and added to the growing pool of “socialists” in Congress. Bernie Sanders and AOC are the two most prominent democratically socialist thinkers in government right now. With this shifting climate against “the elites” in mind, it’s important to examine the ideas people are putting forth with a critical eye.

Venezuela Needs to Sort Itself without American Intervention

venezuela, maduro, united states intervention
TJ Roberts | United States

Venezuela has hit the news again after the Trump Administration announced support for the opposition. This decision has caused conflict not only with Maduro, but also with the Russian government for the United States. This is because Russia has secure financial relations with Maduro’s Venezuela. While it is the duty of any moral person to empathize with the socialist hell that the people of Venezuela suffer, it is also the duty of foreign nations to respect sovereignty. The Venezuelan people deserve a revolution. Especially given the citizens killed at the hand of the military while protesting Maduro. They do not, however, need American intervention to have this revolution. America must stay out of Venezuelan affairs and allow the people of that sovereign nation to sort its own problems out.

Lying to Congress Should Not Be a Crime

TJ Roberts | United States

The Buzzfeed report alleging Donald Trump told Michael Cohen to lie to Congress was false. This surprised no one so long as they have an IQ above room temperature. It’s Buzzfeed. They’re notoriously dishonest. But let’s suppose they told the truth. What if Cohen’s lying to Congress was a direct result of Donald Trump ordering him to do so? While pundits would feign outrage, let’s be real; who cares? The idea that lying to Congress should be a federal crime is one of the great ironies of American Law.

Conner Drigotas | @cddrigotas

Tim Silfies was one of the highest quality individuals the Libertarian Party has ever put forward as a congressional candidate. He ran for Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District as a born-and-raised local with national media experience. He demonstrated a strong understanding of the district and invested a full-time commitment to winning. Silfies even quit his job as a business reporter to run his race.

Tiger Woods Wins Masters, Unites Divided Nation

Tiger Woods
Roman King | United States

The United States is a country divided, in every sense of the word. As much as we Americans posture about being one of the greatest, most united nations in the world, the truth is that we are an often dysfunctional, politically charged conglomerate of people that just tolerate each other to keep the bottom line from going red. Politics viciously divide states, cities, and even families; ideology creates opposing hive minds. The torrential firehose of divisive rhetoric has created a deluge of toxicity between both states and the people; threats of secession, once a relic of a different time, have resurfaced. Truly, our United States are united in name alone. It has been a long time since this nation has felt like a true unit. Enter Tiger Woods.
