May 9, 2017 was the last day that James Comey was in his position of F.B.I Director. President Trump’s letter to Mr. Comey cites that, “I have received the attached letters from the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General of the United States recommending your dismissal as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation” (Trump’s Letter Firing FBI Director James Comey). Attorney General Jeff Sessions cites his reasoning, “I concluded that a fresh start is needed in the leadership of the FBI” (Trump’s Letter Firing FBI Director James Comey). Mr. Sessions draws his reason in his letter to Mr. Comey that Mr. Comey did not show the adequate amount of fairness, integrity, and justice. Mr. Sessions mentions his Deputy, Rod Rosenstein, which gave a recommendation to be fired.

Mr. Rosenstein wrote a three page memorandum about his reason. He cites the Hillary Clinton Investigation decision as a large contributing factor, as Mr. Rosenstein believed that Mr. Comey handled the investigation incompetently. Press Secretary Sean Spicer in his statement quotes President Trump, “The FBI is one of the Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement” (Trump’s Letter Firing FBI Director James Comey). Mr. Spicer also explains that a permanent replacement will begin immediately. Andrew McCabe, James Comey’s Deputy is the presumptive acting director of the agency.

Congress tuesday night, was troubled of James Comey’s termination. Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is quoted saying, “I am troubled by the timing and reasoning of Director Comey’s termination” (President Trump fires FBI Director Comey). Congressional Democrats call for an independent investigation on President Trump’s Russian connections in light of James Comey’s termination.
