Taxation is Nothing More than Legalized Robbery

Taxation on a very fundamental and basic level should be viewed as legalized robbery or theft. Men with guns come to your house and demand that you give them your money or they’ll lock you in a cage. This is what taxation is. Today, we’re discussing the horrors of taxation, why it doesn’t work, and how we can fix the problem. Let me ask you this: What makes a job not slavery? Consent. What makes a transaction not a robbery? Consent. What makes a visit not an invasion? Consent! What makes taxation not theft? Absolutely nothing! The government is FORCING you to pay this!

Think about these questions. What makes a job, not slavery? Consent. What makes a transaction, not a robbery? Consent. What makes a visit not an invasion? Consent. What makes taxation not theft? Nothing, for the government is forcing you to pay this.

“But By being a citizen of your country, you are agreeing to pay taxes! After all, you live here, and you use the utilities that taxes pay for like the police, and roads!”

First of all, no one agreed to pay taxes when they became a part of this world. There is no contract that anyone ever signed that says “I will pay your taxes.” Secondly, the government doesn’t own anything. Again, the government never went to each and every Native American and said: “Do you consent to me owning this land?” They took it by force, and they own it by force. The government never made a voluntary transaction to own all of this land. They were simply a group of men that had better weapons than anyone who could defend the land. If I claimed my own land in “American” soil, the government would probably apprehend me, put me in chains, and lock me away. There is very little difference between this action and what the government actually does. They simply are a group of men with guns who overpower everyone else and make it illegal to oppose them.

“But what about the fact that you use government utilities? Perhaps I enroll my kids in public school, use the public police force, and so on. Certainly, this must mean that you consent to taxation!”

Of course not. If the government is taxing a large amount of your money, you might have to use what is provided by them. If the system is rigged, you might have to temporarily submit to it, in order to stay alive, regardless of whether or not you disagree with it.

There is another reason that using government utilities is not consent. The government is again forcing you to. The government makes it illegal to have a private police force and private military. It does not allow you to use better resources. It steals your money to pay for huge overpriced public schools and utilities, destroying any valid competition with its massive budget.

At the moment, you may have considered something along the lines of “I can see why taxation is theft, but do we have to get rid of the government altogether?” Well, there are some options for you if you don’t want total anarchy:

Voluntary Taxation

This means that you only have to pay taxes if you want to. This idea does sound crazy at first, because what if no one chooses to pay taxes? I mean, who in the right mind would give up money if they don’t have to? This is where selective taxation comes in: You can pick and choose what taxes you agree with. That way, you can pay however you would like, and you know that the money is going to what you are charitable towards. In this model, politicians can’t just keep voting to take more American money. They actually have to make their money count, and will have to make people actually care about issues, in order for people to vote for them. This voluntary model would work well because people will be much more charitable when they aren’t forced to give to give their income to taxes.

Minarchism

In this model, taxes are still mandatory, but the government only spends money on the very basic things needed for freedom: Military, Police, etc. This makes taxes low, and the economy strong. Minarchists often argue that “Taxation is only theft if the government is spending it on anything more than the ‘very basics.’” The early United States was often considered a minarchist society.

In conclusion, the government uses force to monopolize on the people. It threatens to imprison you if you don’t pay it money. Taxation is non-consensual and legalized robbery. There are multiple solutions to solve this problem, ranging from full-scale anarchy to moderate reform. The choice is up to you, but together, we understand that taxation is theft.
