Libertarian champion Ron Paul made an appearance on RT recently where he gave his thoughts on the 2020 election. When asked about the candidates, Paul showed little interest in most of the twenty plus candidates running for the Democratic primary. However, he was very enthusiastic about Representative from Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard, calling her the “very best” option.
Praise from Ron Paul
Paul stated that although he disagrees with Tulsi’s “liberal” economics, her foreign policy is the best chance to bring peace. He praised Tulsi for wanting to prevent the United States from having too many foreign engagements.
Paul further called her the most intelligent and “would be the best of the people that want to be our president”.
Tulsi Gabbard On the Issues
Tulsi Gabbard is a veteran of the Iraq war and has made foreign policy a big issue in her campaign. She is not your typical establishment Democrat, running on a “Build, Don’t Bomb” platform. Gabbard takes a similar anti-regime change stance that Paul also believes in. Gabbard is a heavy critic of the United States’ attempt at nation building overseas. She does not believe the United States should sponsor or side with terrorists. She is against the Syrian war and the US attempting to overthrow Bashar Al Assad (who she has met with).
However, she is not a complete non-interventionist, Gabbard believes that the US should shift its focus from regime change to fighting terrorism. So instead of invading and overthrowing governments, Tulsi believes the US should fight the terrorists, many of whom were created by failures in regime change. As a result, some believe that she is a hawk in dove’s clothing.
Nevertheless, Ron Paul and more on the isolationist right and left support Tulsi Gabbard as a step in the right direction towards a more peaceful foreign policy.
