Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of the most notorious war-hawks in DC, recently appeared on Fox News and openly admitted a few reasons the neoconservative establishment is so interested in Syria.
“The big thing for me is the oil fields.”
“I believe we’re on the verge of a joint venture between us and the Syrian Democratic Forces, who helped destroy ISIS and keep them destroyed. And to modernize the oil fields and make sure they get the revenue, not the Iranians, not Assad. And it can help pay for our small commitment in the future. And protecting Israel is a number one objective. We can do all of that with a very small force. I’m increasingly optimistic this could turn out very well.”
Not surprisingly, the Fox News host is more shocked with Graham praising Trump than him admitting a foreign country with a substantial nuclear arsenal needs “protecting” as our “number one objective.” How does any of this benefit his American constituents? Graham seems to have forgotten about that one.
To add insult to injury, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is also the main force behind the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) – which brings to question why a so-called “conservative” would be so gleefully in support of a Marxist group.
Why Lindsey Graham Doesn’t Care
Lockheed Martin is leading the charge; a quick look at Graham’s OpenSecrets donor page should be enough to reveal why he is so notorious in pushing the pro-invasion agenda. Lockheed Martin is one of the biggest defense and surveillance contractors in the military industry worldwide. It’s an industry that depends on constant war, lest it collapses.
Graham is behind the Security is Strength super PAC and has been a recipient for the Fund for America’s Future PAC. Both PACs take donations from other major defense contractors such as Boeing and Raytheon, among others.
Another group of major donors who have reaped the benefits of Graham’s work are energy firms like General Electric, Flour, and EnergySolutions. And it’s not hard to see why, as regime change is a lucrative business for crony capitalist companies looking to get a piece of the middle east pie.
